Shirt-Inspired Skittlette

Nothing To Disclose

Happy Sunday!! :) I hope your weekend is going well! Yesterday we had a tiny party for my daughter, who turned 7-going-on-20! She doesn't like having "Happy Birthday" sung to her and doesn't really like being the center of attention, so we didn't do anything big :P We did cake and ice cream and presents.. she got a lot of Monster High stuff, including the high school :)

I've been wanting to go through my polish and wear more than 1 or 2 colors at a time, just so I can justify to myself (and hubby?) why I need so much polish, LOL :D

I've been reading a lot of posts by Marta at ChitChat Nails and am in love with the skittlette look she has perfected. If you don't know who Marta is.. have you been living under a rock?? Just kidding!! Seriously, her nails are gorgeous, she comes up with the most beautiful manicures, and her photos are just amazing! Definitely check her out! :)

I've been feeling really uninspired lately, in terms of nail art, so I looked around my room for some inspiration. Then my gaze fell on a shirt that's been hanging in my closet since I bought it, which has been for about a year now!

I decided I wanted to do saran wrap nails, but I only wanted to have them as an accent. I used L'Oreal Silver Star (which is my favorite silver foil polish, but a pain to clean up!), Sinful Colors Tempest, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls (base color for saran wrap nails), Sinful Colors Why Not, and Zoya Suri.

I loved this so much, I kept it on for almost a week! (Pardon the tip wear!)

And the shirt that inspired it all!

What do you think? :D Have you tried the skittlette mani? If not, will you?

Have a great rest of the day!! :D

Shimmer Wendy and Nail Art

Provided For Review Purchased By Me

Hiiiiii! It's Monday.. back to work, blah! I hope your Monday went well, and went by as quickly as mine did :)

I have another lovely Shimmer beauty to show you, and this time, I did something a little differently. I really wanted to do some nail art, so I have a skittlette to show you! Thank you to Marta from ChitChat Nails for coining this word! :D

I really love the colors in Wendy (purple, turquoise, and copper) and used those to plan the rest of this look <3

I used Orly Gumdrop as my base color (which is one of my absolute favorite polishes ever!). On my pinky I used a dotting tool and Revlon Amethyst, on my ring finger and thumb, I did a gradient with Wendy, on my middle finger, I used Revlon Amethyst and China Glaze Watermelon Rind, and on my index finger, I used a Kiss decal. Even though my dots smeared and my lines aren't straight, and the decal didn't cooperate, I still love this :D

Have you done a skittlette yet?

The Polished Mafia Review and Swatch: Killed a Mermaid

Provided For Review

I am so super duper excited to do this review that I don't want to wait until tomorrow to post this! :D So guess what?? I'm posting it now!! :D

A woman I met through a Facebook group several months ago was encouraged by friends to start selling her nail polish. I contacted Samantha about reviewing her polish and she let me pick one. I've been on a huge teal kick lately and when Samantha let me know she had added more polish to her store, I hurried to check them out as soon as I went on break since I was working :P

All of Samantha's polishes are beautiful, but I was drawn to "Killed a Mermaid" for the color and the name! :D I love it! Other mermaid polishes out there are cute and whimsically named and I love that this isn't :P Killed a Mermaid is part of the Girls of the Mafia collection.

Killed a Mermaid is an aqua blue jelly with a lot of shimmer and looks like flakies, plus there's a purple duochrome! <3 I used 3 coats, but there is still VNL. The polish is on the thick side, but it is manageable and easy to work with. I checked with Samantha to make sure the polish was supposed to be thick, and it is. Despite it being thick, it dried pretty quickly on it's own. I used Glisten and Glow HK Girl top coat for added shine.

Isn't it gorgeous!! The slight purple duochrome, the shimmer flakies! <3

I also used 1 coat over Milani Black Swift and Wet n Wild Root of All Evil to see what Killed a Mermaid would look like as a layering polish.

The duochrome effect is stronger and you can definitely see the shimmer in it :) Black Swift is on the middle and pinky fingers, Root of All Evil is on the pointer and ring fingers.

Be sure to follow The Polished Mafia on Facebook and check out Samantha's store! Polishes are 3-free and range from $10 to $11.50. Custom polishes are $12.00. And right now, there is a sale going on! Buy 2, get 1 free! No code needed! Sale ends June 30, 2013 :D

Prihtee Paintz Review and Swatches: I 8 the Glitter and Slimeballz

Provided For Review

Good morning!! It's the last day of the weekend! :( I'm doing nothing today! :P After hubby gets home from work, I have to pick up my daughter's presents for her birthday this Saturday and run some other errands.. I'm running low on acetone and Walgreens has Sinful Colors on sale this week! ;)

A few months ago, Prihtee Paintz was looking for bloggers to review her polish. I, of course, jumped on the bandwagon! :D I got to pick two polishes and a lip balm (not pictured and review coming later!). Let me tell you, it was difficult to choose just two! All of the polishes are beautiful and fun and the names are awesome!! I ended up picking "I 8 the Glitter" and "Slimeballz". I got my package last week, and since there was a significant delay, a small bottle of cuticle oil was thrown in, as well (not pictured and review coming later!) I have to say that communication with Prihtee Paintz has been fantastic.. she replied right away when I messaged her and the little extra was really appreciated :)

Sinful Colors Sail La Vie

Purchased By Me

Happy Saturday... again!! It seems I only post on Saturdays!

A few days ago, I posted a couple of Shimmer glitter bombs and one of the base colors I used was Sinful Colors Sail La Vie from the collection with the same name :)

Sail La Vie is a beautiful periwinkle blue creme with hidden shimmer in the bottle, but does not show up on the nail :( I used 2 to 3 coats with Seche Vite top coat (I say 3 because there was some streaking and a third coat was necessary to fix it).

Beautiful color and it's a great price! I purchased mine at Walgreen's for $1.99. I'm not sure if this collection is still available, but it's worth checking out Walgreen's or Rite-Aid to see if it is :D

Shimmer Swatch and Review Part II: Jennifer and Nichole

Provided For Review

Hi all!! I hope you had a great weekend! Hubby enjoyed a day of doing nothing yesterday since it was Father's Day. I cleaned, did laundry, made a pot roast in the slow cooker. If you're a mom, then you know your work is never done! :P

I have a couple more lovelies to show you from Shimmer, but first I want to share my excitement with you!! *jumps up and down* I spent a better part of Saturday night researching the best/right light bulbs to use for a  light box. Once I found what I needed, I went to the store yesterday morning and bought a 4 pack of CFL 23W Daylight light bulbs. I put them in my lamps, did a quick swatch, took some photos, and then I was giddy with joy!! Finally! No more annoying, ugly yellow glare! I'm so super duper excited. So then I swatched some more pretty polish! :D

Both polishes are layered over a base color with Seche Vite top coat. Glitter applied evenly with both Jennifer and Nichole.. no fishing or positioning of glitters here! :)

Jennifer has so much going on, I don't think I can name every color in the bottle!  There are light blue, teal, gold, and holo glitters, and I know I'm missing some! I layered one coat over 2 coats of Sinful Colors Sail La Vie (swatch coming soon!)

And because I can, matte-fied with Hard Candy Matte-ly In Love. Isn't this beautiful! It's so feminine and delicate <3 It reminds me of Cinderella :D

Nichole is full of silver, red, and blue glitters, perfect for Memorial Day and the 4th of July! I love jelly sandwiches, so I wanted to see how Nichole would look squished between a couple layers of polish :D I used 3 coats of L'Oreal Miss Pixied then 1 layer of Nichole.

And with a layer of Miss Pixie to make it all squishy! I love this combination! The blue was sheer enough to let Nichole shine her way through <3

Shimmer Polish can be purchased on Etsy for $12 for a 0.5 fl oz bottle. Be sure to like on Facebook and follow Cindy on her blog!

Shimmer Swatch and Review: Sarah

Provided For Review

Happy Saturday!! I've been so exhausted this past week, on top of dealing with migraines left and right, that I haven't really been doing much of anything.

I did, however, manage to get some polish-related stuff done, like redoing my blog (!) and doing a review of some Shimmer beauties! I've actually swatched these twice, the first time the pictures were horrendous. My hubby bought another lamp for me to put on the other side of my lightbox, but I think I need to figure out a different set up because right now, I have it sitting on the floor with both lamps on stacked books on either side of the box. And it's not working out too well because I don't have anything to support my hand/elbow on when I take photos. Then they come out all poo-like and I just wasted 2 hours swatching and taking photos. UGH!! Anyway!! On to the polish!!

Shimmer Sarah is a mixture of teal, purple, blue, and gold glitter in various sizes. I may be missing a few colors! I layered 1 coat over China Glaze Tree Hugger. Application was perfect. Glitter applied evenly, no dabbing required! Top coated with Seche Vite to smooth everything out :)

I loved this so much I wore it for a week and decided to try it out matte! 1 coat of Hard Candy Matte-ly In Love later and I was in love! <3
